SOUTHERN AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY (SADC) ELECTION OBSERVERS IN THE DRC VISITED THE RSA OPERATIONAL BATTALION AT MUNIGI BASE

Two SADC Election Observer Teams under the leadership of Maj Genl (Ret) Bakwena Oitsile (Botswana) and the the High Commisioner of Namibia, Commissioner Ben Shikongo, paid a brief visit to the RSA Contingent deployed in Goma, at Muningi Base on Saturday 19 November 2011.

SADC Election Observers in the DRC visited the RSA Operational Battalion at Munigi Base

The National Contingent Commander, Colonel R.A. Makgae heartily welcomed the high-profile guests and gave an overview of the current situation in North Kivu. The RSA Operational Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel M. Dyakopu (OC 8 SAI Bn (Mech)) presented an overview of the security situation and current deployents in his area of responsibility, including incidents as well as the prevailing security situation. The Information Officers of the RSA Contingent highlighted activities related to armed groupings, political parties, coalitions, including human rights violations reported by the communities in the RSA Company Operating Bases and Temporary Operating Bases are situated.
