As part of the 2018 Armed Forces week activities to celebrate and honour the incredible story of the first Commander-in-Chief of the SA National Defence Force, the late President Nelson Mandela-his centenary. He would have turned 100 years in July.

The SANDF pride itself on making efforts to engage with communities in order to empower and change lives of the needy. It was an undeniably a joyous affair as the senior citizens of Seochoareng Assisted Living Centre in Vergenoeg (Kimberley), were treated to the musical extravaganza of the SA Navy Marimba Band, performing a variety of music under the direction of CPO Monyane Mokhesi.

The band was accompanied by Col Debbie Khumalo, Lt (SAN) Lindelani Madikizela and Lt Thomas Mulaudzi. The spirit of Ubuntu was displayed in the selfless acts of generous giving, donating treats to the elderly. Adding flair to the event was Gogo Lettie Louw who will be turning 100 years old on 31 May 2018.

Seochoareng Assisted Living Centre was established in 1964 and accommodates fifty (50) elders from age group 60 to 99 years old.
