SAMHS Nursing College Diploma and Pledge of Service Ceremony

Graduating nurses from the SA Military Health Service Nursing College were congratulated by the University of South Africa (UNISA) and the senior officers from the SAMHS, Maj Gen Lesley Ford, Chief Director Military Health Force Support and Brig Gen Lulu Siwisa, Director Nursing during their graduation ceremony held at UNISA Z.K. Matthews Hall in Pretoria on Friday, 21 July 2017.

The graduates received diplomas in different nursing fields including general nursing and midwifery, primary healthcare and psychiatry.

Ms Joyce Selesho who was the guest speaker urged the graduates to go out there and make a difference in the provision of viable health-care in the SANDF and for all South Africans. She pointed out that the mandate of healthcare nurses is to provide a healthy life for all, with specific focus on increased life expectancy, decreased maternal and child mortality, combating HIV-Aids, Tuberculosis and decreasing the burden of diseases of lifestyle. She encouraged them to rise to new dimensions.

Professor L. Cornwell, Director School of Social Sciences (UNISA) gave the congratulatory address and pointed that South Africans are grappling with many health challenges and therefore as nurses they cannot compromise or deny people the health care they deserve.

The Director Nursing, Brig Gen Lulu Siwisa, said that she was proud of the dedication and loyalty displayed by the students during their studies and for successfully acquiring their qualifications.
