Minister of Defence and Military Veterans visits AFB Makhado
On 17 October 2013, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, as part of her outreach activities of engaging with members of the SANDF, visited AFB Makhado in Limpopo.
On her arrival at AFB Makhado, the Minister and her entourage were met by the Chief of the SA Air Force, Lt Gen Zakes Msimang. After the welcoming parade, the Command Council of AFB Makhado presented a briefing on operational capabilities at the base.
Afterwards the Minister was taken to the hall where she addressed uniformed members and Public Service Act Personnel. The Minister said that the SANDF reflected the diversity of our nation and the solid rock upon which the nation felt secure. She also emphasised the value of patriotism and military discipline.
What made the visit of special significance was that the Minister interacted with soldiers in general on personal issues affecting them and got a better idea of their challenges.
Her next stop was Kutama Village, part of Makhado Municipality, where she met members of the community. In her address to the community, Minister emphasised the importance of strengthening community relations where military bases are located.
