STATEMENT BY DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS

INVITATION TO THE INAUGURATION PARADE OF HONORARY COLONEL DOCTOR IRVIN KHOZA

Date: Monday, 16 March 2009

On Wednesday 18 March 2009, the Department of Defence (DOD) Logistical Support Formation, will host an inaugural parade to bestow the rank of Honorary Colonel to Doctor Irvin Khoza, the Chairperson of the 2010 Fèdèration Internationale de football Association (FIFA) World Cup Organising Committee, Vice President of South African Football Association (SAFA), Chairperson of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the Chairperson of Orlando Pirates Football Club.

The Parade, which will be preceded by a parachute free fall demonstration, will be held at the Logistical Support Formation Sports Ground. Senior Government and Business Leaders have been invited to attend the ceremony.

An Honorary Colonel is expected, inter alia, to assist in the maintenance of goodwill, the traditions of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), to foster esprit-de-corps and to represent the interests of the SANDF. He also serves the SANDF in ceremonial capacity and is not part of the military operational chain-of-command.

You are cordially invited to send a journalist and photographer/cameraperson to the inauguration parade of Honorary Colonel Doctor Irvin Khoza on Wednesday, 18 March 2008, at the Logistical Support Formation Sports Ground at 10:30 for 11:00

• TURN LEFT INTO THE GATE OF CENTURION COLLEGE.
