STATEMENT BY SA NATIONAL DEFENCE FORCE (SANDF)
HEADQUARTERS PRETORIA: APPOINTMENT OF THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR OF
TSHWANE AS THE HONORARY COLONEL OF 6 MEDICAL
BATTALION GROUP

The Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Dr Gwendoline
M. Ramokgopa will on Friday, 04 July 2008 be
appointed as the Honorary Colonel of 6 Medical
Battalion Group. This unique occasion will be
marked with a parade in her honour at Church
Square, and City Hall.
The appointment of Honorary Colonels is a
long-standing tradition in the South African
National Defence Force aimed at fostering
goodwill. As an Honorary Colonel, Dr Ramokgopa
is expected to assist in the maintenance of
goodwill and liaison between the Services, both
Regular Force and Reserve Force, or any other
constituents that may be established in the
SANDF.
6 Medical Battalion Group, under the command
of Colonel (Dr) Able Nhlewane Charles Maminze is
one of the Reserve Force Battalions of the South
African Military Health Service. The prime
objective of 6 Medical Battalion Group is the
provision of a comprehensive military health
service by combat ready reserve force members in
a military as well as civilian capacity. Reserve
force members render their services and
expertise on a voluntary basis.
