STATEMENT BY SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL DEFENCE
FORCE (SANDF) HEADQUARTERS PRETORIA: SANDF
MEMBER DIES IN SUDAN

The Department of Defence, regrets to
announce the passing on of a soldier, rifleman
(Ms) Lesedi Boitumelo Monaisa (21). She passed
on after being admitted in hospital following
what was alleged to be a scorpion sting at Mahla
Military base, Sudan, on Friday 19 September
2008.
Ms Lesedi Boitumelo Monaisa was a member of
the South African battalion deployed in support
of the United Nations/African Union mission in
Sudan. She was a member of 10 South African
Infantry Battalion. She is survived by her
mother, Ms M.D. Motingwe.
The Minister of Defence, Mr Mosiuoa Lekota,
and the Chief of the SANDF, General Godfrey
Ngwenya extend their sincerest sympathies and
condolences to her family.
The memorial service and the funeral
arrangements will be announced once confirmed by
the family.
