MEDIA STATEMENT BY THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENCE THE HONOURABLE MR MLULEKI GEORGE : MEETING WITH MILITARY VETERANS IN POLOKWANE, LIMPOPO

In keeping with the Department of Defence’s (DOD) continuous efforts to address issues concerning the military veterans, the Deputy Minister of Defence, the Honourable Mluleki George, will continue with his road show to address these issues. He has already visited the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, the Free State, North West and the Northern Cape.

On Monday 05 December 2005 the Deputy Minister will be in Limpopo to meet with the Military Veterans at the Army Support Base Polokwane in Polokwane, Limpopo where he will also hand out registration certificates to military veterans that were registered on the National Database. Deputy Minister George says this first group of successful applicants must be an inspiration for other military veterans to also register on the National Database.

The purpose of the meeting will also be to inform military veterans on progress made by the Department in addressing military veterans’ affairs. Deputy Minister George will also hear first hand about problems facing military veterans in Limpopo. The Deputy Minister is expected to also encourage military veterans to register as individuals as well as their organizations on the National Database for recognition by the Ministry of Defence as required by the Military Veterans Affairs Act of 1999.

The meeting will be held in the Army Support Base Polokwane in Polokwane, Limpopo from 09:00 to 14:00. All Military Veterans are expected to attend and to bring with them copies of their Identity Documents as well as those of their dependants for the purpose of registration.
