STATEMENT BY SA NATIONAL DEFENCE FORCE (SANDF) HEADQUARTERS PRETORIA: SANDF SOLDIERS INJURED IN BURUNDI

The SA National Defence Force (SANDF) announced in Pretoria today that 13 members of the SANDF were injured when the Casspir vehicle they were traveling in, overturned during a patrol in Nyabiraba near Bujumbura.

The soldiers were evacuated to the UN hospital in Bujumbura, where twelve were treated for light injuries and one was admitted because of serious injury.

The UN as well as the RSA Contingent Commander will investigate the incident. The names of the soldiers will only be made known once their next-of-kin has been informed.
