MEDIA STATEMENT BY SA NATIONAL DEFENCE FORCE
(SANDF) HEADQUARTERS: 49TH WORLD MILITARY BOXING
TOURNAMENT FROM 30 JUNE TO 8 JULY 2005

The SA National Defence Force (SANDF) will
host the biggest amateur boxing event ever
presented in South Africa from 30 June to 08
July 2005 when the 49th World Military Boxing
Tournament will take place at the University of
Pretoria’s Groenkloof Campus in Tshwane.
More than 200 athletes from 35 countries will
fight it out in 11 categories for seven days to
be crowned as the military world champion on 8
July.
Some of the countries that will participate
in this event are:
• Lesotho
• Botswana
• United States.
As part of the tournament, the German team
will present a boxing clinic to previously
disadvantaged children in the Barry Vorster Hall
in Alberton on 28 June 2005.
You are invited to send a reporter and a
photographer/ cameraman to attend the launch of
the tournament at the Officers Club of the South
African Military Health Service Training
Formation in Thaba Tshwane at 10:00 for 10:30 on
Thursday 23 June 2005 (A map is attached).
