MEDIA STATEMENT BY SA NATIONAL DEFENCE FORCE

Various streets will be closed in Pretoria
West, Tshwane, on the morning of 18 August 2005
when the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) is
moving their main exhibition equipment to the
Tshwane Show grounds. The SANDF exhibition forms
part of the Pretoria International Show that
will take place from 24 August to 04 September
2005.
The SANDF exhibition will focus on the role
of the SANDF during peacekeeping operations on
the Continent, the rejuvenation of the SANDF in
terms of the Military Skills Development System
for young South Africans and the contribution of
the Reserve Force.
In 2003 the SANDF won a gold medal for the
best Government and Semi-government exhibition
stand at the show.
Some of the important dates and timings
include:
- An Oryx helicopter landing at the show
grounds will take place at 09:00 on
Wednesday 17 August 2005 at Hall F.
- The G6 (Self Propelled Artillery Weapon)
will be driving down Lavender Ave at 09:00
on Thursday 18 August 2005 to the Show
grounds.
- Other exhibition material will move
along Potgieter Street to the show grounds
at 09:00 on Thursday 18 August 2005.
- Opening of the Pretoria International
Show by the Minister of Defence at 18:00 on
26 August 2005.
PROGRAMME OF THE EXHIBITIONS
INDOOR EXHIBITION:
- SA Army: Elak Rifle Shooting simulator,
Mine detector equipment, Bomb disposal
suits, a Jakkals vehicle and a display by
the Special Forces.
- SA Air Force: Military Skills
Development (MSD) and Training exhibition,
Flight Simulators and the Air Picture
Display System
- SA Navy: MSD and Training exhibition.
- SA Military Health Service (SAMHS): MSD
and Training exhibition and an exhibition by
Seven and Eight Medical Battalion Groups on
peace support.
OUTDOOR EXHIBITION:
- SA Army: MBT Olifant 1 B Tank, Ratel,
Caspir, SAEC Water point, Medium Guider
Bridge, Aerial Walkway from the Engineering
Formation, 35mm AA Gun, Rooikat Armoured
Car, 155mm GV6 and a Weather haven used in
Burundi and the DRC.
- SA Air Force: Oryx Helicopter
- SA Navy: Namacura and the Diving Tank
- SAMHS – Field Hospital
